Project PASS 2009

The Ysleta Area PASS Academy is a summer program that is offered to middle school students entering into their freshman year.  The PASS Academy focuses on teaching students leadership qualities that will enable them to be successful in their first year of high school.  It is a combination of the best elements of pre-college programs implemented by the College of Engineering of the University of Texas at El Paso, the business community, and student leadership.  The program is comprised of a 3 week session designed to introduced participants to the disciplines of engineering, math, and science, as well as leadership and students success to increase awareness of the importance of being actively involved in campus extracurricular activities.   


Project PASS Goals

  • All incoming freshmen will have a clear understanding of expectations at Ysleta High School.
  • 50% or more of participants will take ownership of their school by signing up and participating in at least one extracurricular activity.
  • All camp participants will learn 100% of their peers' names.
  • All camp participants will be assigned a mentor and a peer buddy with which to work for their whole freshman year.
  • To ingrain in camp participants that failure at Ysleta High School is not an option and provide them the tools necessary to succeed.
  • To Encourage and support a parental communication foundation.
