The
art department would like to congratulate all of our students who participated
in the VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) competition at Montwood High School
this past Saturday. All of our students received a rating of 4, which is the
highest rating a student could get to qualify for the regional competition.
There were over 200 students who participated in this event from the El Paso
region. Del Valle had thirteen students who participated; several having two
pieces of artwork to be evaluated and judged. One student qualified for the
state competition to be held in Houston, in April.
The
judging process included student interviews and evaluation of artwork. Congratulations to these students for their effort and commitment to this event.

The boys wrestling team placed 3rd at last weekends' district tournament. They finished behind powerhouses Eastwood and Hanks with only 6 varsity wrestlers. 4 qualified for regionals this weekend including District Champion Isaiah Rubio, Jesse Marquez, Santiago Rascon, and Aaron Ortiz. Good luck at regionals. Coach Familigi |

Members of our choir competed on Saturday at the Pre-Area Choir competition. CECY WARFIELD (sophmore) fell just short of advancing, but to make it this far is very difficult as she was #8 in the entire Region!!!!! Our student JOHN BOWLES (senior) not only will advance to the Area competition which will be in Midland but he made FIRST CHAIR for the Bass section. This means that he beat out every other singer auditioning in the Bass section. This is outstanding! His hard work and dedication has prevailed and I am SO proud of him. I thought you all would like to know what amazing musicians we have here at Del Valle! Lisa Serna, Choir Director |
We had the following successes last Saturday at Eastwood during the YISD Fall Drill Meet: Gary Crafton |

Tennis Team defeated Mt.View this past Friday and Saturday. The score was tied at the end of the matches (9-9). We had to go to the 2nd tie breaker where the score showed an 18-18 tie, so we moved to the 3rd tie breaker where we out scored them 170-166 . We have been waiting to see how this was going to affect our chances of being the 2nd place team in the district and advance to regionals. There was an issue between 2 other schools and when it was settled,we finished in 3rd place.I'm still very proud of my players and they should be congratulated by you for having an outstanding season(5-2 district play)(over all 7-3) plus a tournament championship. Please let me take this time to thank you for your support , it truly does mean a lot to my kids. Thank you to the teachers that came out on Friday and those students who stayed to the end. It was our largest crowd of the season, thank you. by Coach Loza |
